GASL Season Updates/Time Standards Vote

Good evening!

I hope everyone has had a good first week of practice and that things are running smoothly for all of your teams.  Thank you to everyone who submitted a vote for the Time standards proposal. We had 21 out of 22 teams submit a vote!  The results are below along with a few additional reminders as things get underway in the next 1-2 weeks.  Please review everything and let me know if there are any questions or issues that come up!

  • Time Standard Change Proposal: With 21 of 22 teams casting their votes, we had 15 No votes (71.4%) and 6 Yes votes (28.6%) so we will NOT be changing the time standards for this season. We can discuss this topic again in the Fall if needed.
  • Rules: The updated 2026 GASL rules are posted on the GASL site HERE. League Reps and Coaches are responsible for being familiar with all standing rules and should have them available should a situation arise. These also clarify what reports to have printed and staffing for meets.
  • Result Posting: Tech Reps from the home team must post results after the conclusion of the meet within 4 hours on the GASL website. Save results as pdf with title AWAY TEAM -SCORE at HOME TEAM – SCORE DATE.pdf To post: manage league>schedule>navigate to meet and click>files>new attachment
  • Pool requirement reminder: There had been some feedback end of last season regarding pools adhering to the GASL rules regarding the venue, specifically backstroke flags, with the concern being safety if flags are too low.  Here are the GASL specifications from Section 3 of the GASL Rules regarding Conduct of Dual Meets and Tri-Meets, 3.1 Venues:
    • 2. Backstroke Flags, stretched firmly across the pool as follows:
      • a. 20-yard & 25-yard pools: 15 feet from each end at a height of seven feet
      • b. 25-meter pools: 5 meters from the end at a height between 5’11” and 8’3”
        • Note: Heights measured from the cable to the water’s surface.
    • *If you have questions regarding this requirement or any of the other requirements as noted in the rules please reach out.
    • Please refer to the GASL Rules as linked above for all of the requirements for the meets. Championship meet hosts should plan now to ensure pools are in compliance prior to hosting- let us know if you need assistance or to borrow equipment so we can prepare ahead of time.
  • Officials: Officials must be certified. See the GASL Website under the Officials tab HERE for Officials Training dates and sign-up link. The 2026 slide decks are also available here for review. Year-round officials can send a copy of their credentials to Chet at [email protected]

Our next meeting will be the Seed Meeting on Monday July 13th from 6:30-7:30pm at Harting Farm, 1011 Harting Farm Dr. Arnold, MD 21012.  Host teams may come at 6pm to set up.

If you have any questions or concerns that come up during the season, please don't hesitate to contact me!
